Around Sherborne

Sherborne is one of the most attractive of Dorset towns, famous for it's beautiful Abbey and two castles - the old castle destroyed by Cromwell's Army in the 17th Century and the striking new castle which is open to visitors and enjoys spectacular views over the lake and rolling countryside

Sherborne has a lovely collection of local and traditional shops situated on the picturesque Cheap Street and a good selection of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants.

Nearby attractions include Minterne Gardens, the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Wincanton Races and the Cerne Abbas Giant.  There are golf courses at Sherborne, Folke and Yeovil.

Regional Attractions

Stoneleigh Barn is located in the peaceful countryside of the Blackmore Vale, just outside the historic town of Sherborne and close to the Dorset/Somerset border.  The largest nearby town is Yeovil, which offers a good range of shops, restaurants and family attractions.

The Blackmore Vale is an area of rolling hills, picture postcard villages and traditional market towns, including Sturminster Newton and Blandford Forum, which is one of the best examples of a small Georgian town in Britain.  Shaftesbury is a medieval hilltop town, famous for it's abbey and the view of Gold Hill used in the Hovis advert.

To the south, the county town of Dorchester is situated in the centre of Thomas Hardy country, and Weymouth is a vibrant coastal resort and a venue for the sailing events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Dorset is renowned for the stunning and historic Jurassic coastline, in evidence all thw way along the coast from Lyme Regis to Bournemouth and including Lulworth Cove and the striking Durdle Door

Attractions in Somerset include Glastonbury Abbey and Tor, Wells Cathedral and the beautiful Roman and Georgian City of Bath, around an hours drive away.  National Trust enthusiasts will delight in the beauty of Stourhead House & Gardens, Montacute House, Kingston Lacy and Lytes Cary Manor
